My younger sister came to visit today up to our home town. She came to the nursing home dad is in, and mom was there too, this afternoon. She brought me a gift I couldn't believe she had. Just a couple days ago I was thinking about finding one of these to put out in my shop. This particular one is a 4 foot tall blow up Dino mascot that our dad had hanging in his station way back in the '80's and '90's. I had no idea it was still around. She said she took it when they had the shop sale which was July 1993. So I blew some air into it and couldn't believe it still held air. I'm going to leave it up all night and see if it stays inflated overnight. I am super happy she gave it to me.
Picked up another Grape Ape Garage wall art project yesterday. Was scanning marketplace Saturday night again and ran across this 1960's Sinclair sign that's been in a barn for a few decades I was told. So yeah, I have now got me a barn find. I'm going out today and see if it lights up and clean it up some. I am not going to use the factory lighting, even if it does work, but will be installing some LED lights so it won't use as much juice. I won't disturb what's there and leave it intact. I also won't mount the LED's in a way that will ruin the antiqueness of it and would be easy to remove. This thing is 3' x 2' so should make for a cool project I think. Picked it up pretty cheap too so I'm not out much if it doesn't work out. The plastic Sinclair cover is 99% perfect too. Just has a couple scuffs on it.
I was watching a youtube video last night from Matts Off Road where they were at a gas station in BFE Nevada at a Sinclairs and one of the guys jumped on the dinosaur in the parking lot. I thought for sure it was gonna collapse! haha.
The hood will be in a safe unavailable location so nobody will be able to touch it, not even me. Don't want it damaged and I know it will if I leave it out. I checked out the new light today too. It works.....IT'S ALIVE!!!!!! It works. Both bulbs lit up nice and white. It has daylight bulbs in it so they've been changed before. I don't think they had that version back in the 60's. I'm still planning on the LED's, but wanted to see if it still worked. Got it all cleaned up too. Now just waiting for the new lighting and then hang it.
I have, yes. It is on my to get list. Just haven't found one yet. I've heard of a place about 70 miles from me that restores them. My cousin, he has one from them, told me about the place and wants to ride with whenever I can make that trip. Someday for sure though.
Got to finish up the light today. Looks great and will light up when I enter the room since it's on a motion sensor. I put 4 LED light bars in it and it really lights it up nice. Probably won't get to do much this weekend. My dad is in a nursing home and he had a doctor appointment yesterday. He hasn't been eating and has been sleeping a lot more this last week. Doctor report said he's in renal failure. Going up to see him tomorrow and talk to them and see what the plan is if anything. Mom said she doesn't want to put him thru anymore stressful procedures so I'll see how she's doing too. My sister showed dad the new light I have and he said, Boy, he really likes his Sinclair stuff doesn't he. Well, he taught me most things I know about wrenching in a Sinclair station, so yeah, I really like Sinclair stuff. I really need to clean my bench off soon, so pay that no attention.
^^^. I know you would need to move some stuff around, but I think the old hood with some backlighting would look great hanging next to that rear fascia.
I will not disagree with that at all. It would look good. I'll have to go see what would all need to move around and see if I can make some space for it. I'll see if I can get some time and rearrange the place. The back lighting is a great idea too.

Thanks Mike. Always a work in progress, just like the car. 😄 Never really done. I did finally get the car out today and it drive great. Really like looking at the new hood from the drivers seat too. Didn't get to stay more then a couple hours at this show, but that's okay. Got some much needed work done on the pond when I got home.
Grape is looking great and so is the garage. I agree the hood would look good on the wall (although you said you put it somewhere you can't get at it). So sorry to hear about your dad. How's your wife's knee doing?
