Bang for buck front brake upgrade.
Hey all,
I'm looking to purchase a modest upgrade to the c5 front brakes. I need rotors, pads, and calipers. I'm also taking recommendations and suggestions. Thanks!

If you have 17" front wheels, give Todd a call at TCE for one of his Wilwood kits;

The front kit is about the best bang for the buck;

I just finished putting C6 Z06 brakes on my C5 Base Convertible. They look awesome, I have C6 Base wheels and had to put 3/4" spacers all around for clearance to the caliper. The caliper and rotor are about 10 lbs heavier per wheel, that is a lot! With Hawk HPS pads the braking is scary strong! Very light pedal pressure will put you through the windshield! Within a week my wheels are black with dust, spray them off and there is literally a black river under the car! But they look great and I know I will never have fade, ever!

I actually found the parts on Facebook Marketplace! Paid $350 for the rears, used including spindles/uprights. The fronts were $900 for brand new calipers, Hawk HPS pads, and brand new rotors. I used jegs or summit C5 braided steel kit and then put ARP wheel studs on so I didn't have to do those crazy bolt on 3/4" spacers. Knocked the studs out of them and through bolted them. Only thing I will change is the front pads, the HPS pads squeal and dust like crazy, like black wheels within a week.

Do you feel the c6 base calipers are worth it? Like is it a noticeable difference? Would you feel comfortable taking it to the track? I ask because I wouldn't mind going that route.

Can you run c5 rears and c6 fronts, Z06 or base?
Thanks yall

There is little to no difference between a C5 base or Z C6 is a whole different animal. I don't know if there is a difference between the base C6 and C5 calipers, but the C6Z calipers are massive, with all parts counted, about 10 lbs heavier per corner. And a very light pedal pressure will put you into the belts!

Hey guys,
So I bit the proverbial bullet and bought some c6 wheels. I had to space them out a bit to flush them with the wheel wells, but it worked out. I can now fit some c6z calipers in there! If anyone has any they'd like to "part" with, pun intended, let me know! I just missed a good set for 1k, but I didn't know I was getting the wheels yet lol. Ah well, check out the pics. What do ya'll think?

Those look nice, but....
The C6 base 18" front wheels will allow you to use the slightly taller C6 Z51 caliper mounting brackets that will space your stock calipers radially out further allowing you to run the slightly larger C6 Z51 front rotors (13.4" vs. 12.8"), but I do not believe that the C6 base 18" front rims will fit over the C6 Z06 front brakes. For that you need either C6 Z06 front 18" rims that offer more spoke clearance and possibly just a bit more barrel clearance or a set of correctly fitting aftermarket 18" rims or even a pair of C5 Z06 18" x 10.5" rear rims.

Le Mans Master
^^ great information, that is probably the best bang/buck upgrade. All stock parts, inexpensive and easy to find.

Does it help that I spaced the wheels out about 5/8"? There seems to be a lot of clearance horizontally. You think there may be an issue with the barrel being too tight? I've read a few posts where people described doing the conversion with these rims using spacers. I think these are called "Gumbys", aren't they?
