Default Pay It Forward for C5 Owners

NOTE: I had to put a WTT prefix on this thread to get it to post, but that is not really the focus of this thread.

We're going to give this a try and see how it goes.

Thanks goes out to member L-popo for requesting that a thread like this be made.

The idea is many owners have something in the garage that they just couldn't toss out or have taken it off the car for mods that have been done. Perhaps they still have the car or perhaps the car it applied to has long since been sold/traded. For instance touch up paint or spare wipers blades or left behind manuals. Get the idea?

Paying it forward is a concept to just give it to someone that's willing to pay the freight or drive to get (if close enough). In time, someone will have an item posted that you probably need. If you absolutely feel it's something you have to sell, then please don't post it here. Instead, post it as a for sale thread by itself.

To keep this going, members that ask for an item will hopefully have something that they can offer up for others to claim.

When an item has been requested by and sent to another member, please indicate in the post that the item is no longer available. This will help interested members know the status of an item that has been posted.

I'm going to sticky it so it's always available.

I’ll help kick it off

All of the following parts are free you pay shipping or pickup from 30909, all of them are stock parts off of my 1998 z51 and had around 60k miles on them at the time they were taken off

front and rear leaf springs, both swaybars, and stock exhaust manifolds.

Huge thanks for Vetteman Jack for putting this together. Saw the C7 section has this, so why not give it a try here. I'll contribute my part as well.

All of the following are free, you pay shipping. Pickup in 76227, Crossroads, TX. About 20 minutes east of Denton and an hour from the DFW surrounding area.
All parts from a 1997, removed at 10K miles.

- Pushrods (full set)
- Spark plug wires (7, Packard/Delphi brand)

Not sure if anyone needs a stock air-bridge accordion coupling. Just the coupling. Thanks

There have been threads like this before, but IIRC, they were done around Christmas time. This one is done with the hope that it can be a continual effort to Pay It Forward on spare parts members may have sitting around.

Also please remember that if someone claims an item you posted, it would be great if you indicated the item is no longer available.

Zebra - On second thought, can you cut the front before the bracket with the 2 holes in it. That way it will be held together correctly.
Thank You
John

@JEHunter Note that the pipe before the cats is double-walled, which will be a little tricky if your plan is to weld it back together like factory.

Bacon - Good point. Zebra called me last night and we decided to just leave the front alone (no cutting). If we cut behind the O2 hook ups, the length is about 48" and pretty easy to ship UPS... Thanks JH

I started a thread with a bunch of free items the day before this sticky was started.

Here is a link with what I have so far. More cabinets to go through, so hopefully more parts coming for free.

Just need to pay for a box and shipping.

Default TAKEN: outdoor car cover, cable and lock

I found a local forum member who can use this, so this car cover has been taken.

I have the one that is described at: https://www.empirecovers.com/detail.aspx?p=GMX

Interestingly, this product is no longer in stock. It was about 100 bucks when I bought it new. It's the right size for a C5 coupe. Presumably it will fit some other models and years. More details below.

The cover is located in Maryland, north of D.C. If you're interested and nearby, you can pick it up. I would even be willing to meet you halfway somewhere, depending on how far that is. For me, it would be a good reason for a short road trip. I really don't want to mess with shipping it. I actually still have the box, but this is one of those things that never fits back in the box once it's out. Kind of like an inflatable raft.

I used this cover outdoors for two years. On the positive side, it has been pretty durable. One of the grommets did get ripped out during a wind storm, but I was able to repair it. There's about a 1-inch tear in one place. I don't remember if it goes through all of the layers of material. And it is free. There are some negatives, too. First, it is not a tight fitting cover. It has some elastic front and back, but it's not going to hold the cover in place outdoors on a windy day. Second, it will not keep your car perfectly clean or dry outdoors. The material itself does not seem like it would damage the car's paint, but if dirt or other debris gets between the car and the inside of the cover (and that will happen outdoors), there is the potential for scratches. My paint wasn't perfect to begin with, but maybe yours is. My advice would be to not use this outdoors when it's windy. It would work better in a more enclosed space, or indoors in a garage.

The accessory cable and lock (and keys) are included. They're weathered from being outdoors, but they work. I believe the cover is washable outdoors, but I'm not sure if it's machine washable. I probably have the papers somewhere.

So, there you have it. A good but imperfect car cover. Free.
