Drag Racing help
I just came back from all night drag racing. It my first time doing it. The track temp was about 50 degrees I did 4 runs, I have 99 automatic coupe with runflats, basic rear end 2:73, halltech intake a borla stingers. I put the car in competition mode, and briefly spun the tires. I would put one foot on the brake the other on the gas and hold it at about 1,500 rpms and then launch at the third yellow light my times were as follows
Pass 1
Reaction: .5203
60ft: 2.1627
330ft: 5.88
1/8: 8.89 @82.46
1/4:13.5966@103
Pass 2
Reaction: .8100

330ft: 6.0315

1/4:13.7564@103.88
Pass 3

I was wondering what driver mistakes am I making, I know the car is better than this. Thanks for any advice.

Alright I got you covered....
Did you put the car in 3 or D?
Should be 3...
Why competition mode?
Just turn it off....
Your biggest problem was launching at 1500 rpm's...
Anything past 1100-1200 rpm's will cas the car to bog and result in crappy ET...
Launch around 700-900 rpm's or do what a lot of people do and just launch off Idle...
Did you let the car kool down to 190 degrees before each run?
Thats easily another tenth right there if you didnt..
Was your tire psi around 22-25?
The typical 99 2.73 should dyno around 285 rwhp (290 rwhp for the 01 and ups)....
With your Halltec and exhaust you should be around 295 rwhp....
295 rwhp on a 50 degree night is more than enough for a 2.73 a4 at an average track to hit 13.4 at 104 on a 2.0 60 ft...
You were close...13.59 at 103...
My best ever with the bone stock 2.73 a4 in 80 degrees was 13.5 at 103...
Then with LS6 heads and cam only went 13.1 at 106....
It takes a lot to put more umph in the 2.73's..
SO LET THE ENGINE KOOL TO 190 OR LOWER...PUT HER IN 3...TURN THE AH OFF.....AND LAUNCH OFF IDLE....
WITH GOOD WEATHER AND GOOD TRACK PREP YOULL HIT A 13.30-13.49 AT 103.0-104.5 OFF A 2.0 60 FT....

for my (then stock) 2002 A4, I would run in the Competitive Driving mode, gear selector on 3, and power-brake launch @ 1300rpm.
I can run 13.3's all day with 2.0x 60'

With those gears and tires it ain't so bad. Notice that things get worse as you go along. The intake system needs to cool off or the olde ECM will interpret conditions and hinder your performance. Using a bag of ice on the intake manifold (watch for leaking!) can help cool things quickly. I'm thinking of adding homemade cool can to chill fuel.

if you would update your forum profile with your C5's year, this would help some of us.
2000 and earlier C5's had the bogging problem you describe.
2001 and newer got a major PCM code rewrite that stopped the Competitive Driving Mode from being so intrusive. On 2001 to 2004 C5's... you can powerbrake in the Competitive Driving mode without any interference from the PCM.
