My car was mail order tuned by Ed Wright and I'm getting HP tuners, will I have a problem with the tune that in it? I know he (Ed Wright) locks them but will the dealer be able to tune back to stock then I use HP tuners? I read somewhere if you try to tune over his tune it will fry the computer!
Iam not exactly sure when he stopped locking his PCMs. You can get HPT & try to read & write to it. If it was locked then you simply won't be able to write to it, however the PCM will remain in normal condition (i.e. will not be damaged due to your attempt to write to it).
If you found that it was locked then all what you have to do is have the dealer flash the PCM back to stock. They should be able to do that without a problem
You can save the cost of a dealer flash by getting a stock bin file for your year and model and write it to your pcm.
I just had to do that with a '98.
