Which of the hand held programers would you guy's recomend or would you even recommend any of them? I have an 03 with the A4 tranny. I am thinking one that would have pre-programed tunes or one the manufacturer can provide custom tunes would be best for me with my limited knowledge of tuning.
I bought a Hypertech from another member on the board for next to nothing. I have one in my lifted Ford Expedition and it was a night and day difference. I plan on going with a h/c package at a later date so I did not want to pay $500 now for a custom tune. I can use this for now and when I am ready to do a few pulls I can get a tune then and sell this off. I think its a good solution for us intake exhaust guys.

Yeah thats me too, i have exhaust and intake, with a A4. i was wondering what the best program was myself. I found a hypertech for $325 brand new, but you have to buy the 160 degree trem. to go with it.

vinci has a great handheld programer. it made a big difference on my 98 A4. but my car need a tune, i could only get 21 being nice to it! now it;s getting 27.5 and a lot faster! i think getting ride of the tork management is a big part of the performance.
You don't have to install a thermostat with any Hypertech Power Programmer tuning. The Power Programmer tuning is developed with stock thermostats, but there is an option to adjust the fan on/off settings if you have installed an aftermarket thermostat.
The confusion here may come from the days of chips. The chips didn't allow for custom adjustments like fan temps, top speed for tire rating, shift points, etc. Because of this these chips are offered separately for different thermostat settings.
