I own a 2002 Z06. I did the SDstarter tune I have a WB now when I put this tune in and drive around all my afr read 12.5 to 13 i set my pe table to 1.12 across the bord which should be 13.0 afr maf disabled compleatly and I pulled the pink black and yellow wires out of the clip so I can reinstall. Now the problem when I am driving around I cant get the higher map values because if I go WOT my DIC says reduse engine power and cuts the power so if I am doing a ve tune and planing to reinstall the maf the easier driving isnt going to really help due to the fact the maf will be used there, now the second problem my vcm scanner doing the maf afr error isnt supported all i have is a vararam intake and im trying to learn how to tune, with the maf error do I need the WB hooked up I had it hooked up when I tried to get the tables 2nd my lm1 says 17.1 afr but on the chart it says around 11.5 but sometimes the numbers match is there a chance the lm1 can be giving the vcm a more updated afr then it showes on the lcd after a couple of min of driving it seems fine.
I'm in the same boat as you but I have a friend who is advising me and reviewing my scans before I retune. Here are his basic procedures. You need to start with the VE not the PE. I also increase my entire stock VE table by 5% before starting. All previous scans indicated I was running lean. Also when doing these procedures concentrate on small rpm ranges. I started yesterday and only did 800 to 2000 rpms hitting all MAP points.
True SD tuning
VE Calibration
Unplug MAF
OR
Set MAF fail frequency to 0 (Forces SD), start the car 4-5 times so failure is complete
Set PE Enrichment values to "1"
--Disables fuel adder at FTC 15 or 22 (WOT)
Set Closed Loop Enable (ECT vs. IAT) to "250" for all temps
--Disables closed function and learning
Set Long Term Fuel Trim Enable to "Off"
--Disables Fuel from being learned
Set DFCO Enable Normal MAP vs. Baro Entry to all "0"
--Turns off decel fuel cut-off
Drive car (warmed up) with Wide-Band hooked up the HPTuner and log the "Commanded AFR" PID
Monitor the Error % AFR in the Histogram, drive for 30 minutes after warmed up
Copy values from scanner and paste into VE table of the .bin file.
--i.e. From the VE table right click and paste special; (Multiply by %) for all values over 10 and (Multiply by half %) for all values under 10…
Right file, flash to PCM
Lather, rinse, repeat…. As needed…
MAF Calibration
1. Put car back in open loop
a. Set Closed Loop Enable (ECT vs. IAT) to "250" for all temps
2. Set your Open Loop EQ Ratio table to 14.7:1 in all cells
a. This will save fuel (as opposed to 13.0)
3. Set up your PE table to exactly how you'd set it for the street
a. This will protect you when at WOT
4. Disable dfco
a. Set DFCO Enable Normal MAP vs. Baro Entry to all "0"
Any particular reason you have chosen to use Speed density ???I am not a fan at all--and only can see tuning that way with extreme combinations--My opininon is that with your basic modded car with even heads and monster cam--there is really no benefit --maybe 5 HP? what's the point??? the general does a pretty goog job with the MAF system--Heck the 500HP Z06 has a MAF--When the seasons change it's going to be off again--60* day---100* day--it won't even be close ???the time involved and the effort as you are seeing is it really worth it ??? Maybe you have your reasons--I would like to know thks--just curious--
TBlu Yes I do have a reason and its a good one too. I dont know what I am doing and from reading this is the only way I can see to tune this. I have a WB and I keep pulling a check engine with just a vararam also when I get on it I get black suiet all over the back of the car after 2 weeks it is coverd. I eliminated the CAGS, changed my fan temps, disabled the EGR and Air pump. So if there is an easier way to do this I would love to know
