My .02 based on using HPTuners on a couple of different cars, one being a 98. I can't speak to radical race applications but for the standard mods and general tuning HPTuners works great w/ the 98 PCM. I don't have real-time capability for that car but that's not a big deal for me anyway. I like to make a change, log it and then study on it a while before deciding if it needs additional tweaking.
Can't speak to the other software options because I haven't used them but HPT has functioned well for me and seemed to be the best value.
There is also a comparison of HP Tuners vs. EFI Live. It helps better display all the additional features you receive with our product as well. Bill has the link, I'll send him a link to this post.
If you have any questions feel free to ask or e-mail our sales staff at sales@hptuners.com
Thanks!
I have looked into HP Tuners and played around in the Hp tuners forum. I have to admit, it is a little intimidating. I am not intimidated by computers/software, but I don't want to screw up my car. Does the program have preprogrammed tunes/settings like some of the handheld tuners? I changed the intake and plan on changes like gear swap and exhaust ec....

We have a repository where any hptuners customer can upload his/her file for others viewing pleasure.
My recommendation would be to do what I did when I first started tuning and that is TAKE YOUR TIME! Start with the small stuff ie fan temp turn on/off, tq management, shift points, CAGS,etc. Before you jump into fueling & timing too much.
Also learn the scanner which will be one of thee most valuable tools in your arsenal.
IMO, unless you are tuning on a dyno, or you have a co-pilot in the car, I don't see no real need for real time tunning. And the Dyno guys seem to always use there own software. So I wouldn't pick a system just for that. It's a nice extra, but not needed.
All, I just added Kooks 1 7/8 " headers to the 3x3 no cats with the Ti exhaust and loaded the predator tune. I sent my config file to Diablo and they did a custom tune for a my mods at no charge. I can't wait to dyno my 2002 Z06.
It's pretty simple, especially if you are going with things like gear changes, tire sizes, headers, torque converters. Just put in the tune and go, plus you have the capability to use the Predator to monitor your ltft's and change all kinds of parameters on the car, if you don't like it, change it again til you get it right. Shift points, firmness, downshifts, upshifts, reading DTC's. It does enough for me so far, I don't know about when you get heads and cam, not there yet, but Mike at Diablo has e-mailed me twice when I had a concern and so I see the support is Great! That also makes a lot of difference to me. I don't know how to work everything just yet, but their Forum is awesome, just like this one, so I'm happy with it, Good Luck.
