Asked this question in tech, never got a good answer. Can the traction control be permanently turned off on a 1999?. I want to keep the option of being able to turn the A/H on or off.
Seems I have heard before that you can not turn it off. But that
is only from memory and I'm getting old.
In addition to the obvious ( turning the TC button off) there are many traction control files in the ECM ---There isn't an entry to just disable it but what i see is that the TC system uses the spark retard tables or knock retard to remove power from the engine when it senses a loss of traction from spinning--typically it removes around 10-25* of timing depending on RPM and a few other parameters--You can enter "0"s into all those tables and when the system becomes active it won't remove ANY timing--Have never tried it but quite sure it would work--
You can set the PCM to retard 0* timing during TC engagement easy enough...but the problem is, if the EBCM still senses wheelspin after commanding the timing retard to the PCM, it activates the rear brakes.
There is a product called Laptrax that will auto disable the TC and AH, as if you flipped the switch yourself. http://www.laptrax.com/ I intend on buying one in the very near future as I HATE the TC n my car. It will also auto set Competition mode, which is what I think you're looking for, and then you can still hit the switch to cycle manually through on off or comp mode.

Reason: spelling...
Thanks.
Changing the spark retard table would solve one problem, but I believe that the ecm reduces the throttle angle before or after applying the brakes. I will give the LAPTRAX a try, they were on sale last week for $35
