Default PCM's

I'm going to upgrade the PCM (re-pin the damn harness) in my 98. Which year should I use that will give me the best tuning capabilities?

Never mind. It looks like 01-02.

Any 99-02 GM V-8 (512 kb) pcm will do. There were multiple hardware numbers over the years. The quick reference check is on the connectors it will read "Blue" and "Red." If you see any other color combo it is not the right pcm. Hint, avoid the vette / performance tax by looking for a lowly truck pcm. Same hardware, most recyclers don't know the difference though.

I would stick with the 01/02 as they have a better VE table, and no secondary VE.
Just my .02, and thats probably all its worth.

The 99-02 PCM hardware is the same, We can program any Operating System we choose into it, the model year of the vehicle that the PCM came out of is irrelevant as long as it is a 99/02 Red and Blue PCM.

A plug and play harness would be cool, be able to plug into factory harness on one end and then plug in new style ecm, has this ever been done? Do they exist?

Unfotunetaly they do not exist, we actually made one but the problem lies in the male connector that is part of the PCM, Delphi does not make them anymore so to get them the cost would be outrageous.

I see, that we be expensive. My friend swapped his pcm on 98 to new style, quite a long process re-pinning all wires. I would like to do mine so we can put the roadrunner on it.
