Default HELP! P1631 code and VATS HELP!

Hello

I have a 1999 Corvette C5, A4 (European model).

I am fairly new to tuning and got an e-mail baseline tune for my 427cui project, HP-tuner.

However the file is from another vehicle (newer) and after loading it into my car (Write entire) I can not get the car idling, it ignites, 1 - 2 seconds and stalls immediately and the code P1631 appears.

======================================== ===========

Checked P1631 (theft deterrent password incorrect) and got the following:

This diagnostic tests for mismatched passwords between the PCM and BCM. Whenever replacing the BCM or PCMfollow the theft learn procedure in order for the system to learn the new password.

Conditions

Mismatched password metween PCM and BCM

Conditions for setting the DTC

- The PCM detects a wrong password from the BCM
- The fuel disable lockout is set
- The system has recieved an incorrect fuel continue password
- An invalid ignition key or malfunctioning ignition switch
- The BCM was replaced.

Action taken when DTC sets:

- The engine starts and then the engine stalls immediately
- The PCM stores the DTC information into the memory when the diagnostic runs and fails
- The malfunction indicator lamp will not illuminate
- The PCM records the operating conditions at the time during which the diagnostic fails. The PCM stores this information in the Failure records.

======================================== ============

After checking the VCM Editor I have followed the following procedure at least 10 times:

Relink VATS

This feature allows the VCM to relink with the vehicles security system. It is only required on vehicle fitted with Serial VATS systems. It can be used when a new PCM is used in a vehicle or after reflashing a new operating system into a PCM from a different vehicle.

Procedure
To relink the VCM with the BCM please use the following steps:

Plug the interface cable into the vehicle OBD2 port and PC serial/USB interface. See Connecting to the Vehicle section for more information.
Open VCM Editor and select "Relink VATS" from the "Flash" menu. The Relink VATS form will appear.
Put the key in the ignition and turn to the ON position (do not start the vehicle).
Wait 10 to 15 seconds.
Press the Commit button when ready.
Wait for the procedure to complete.
Turn Ignition off for 30 seconds.
Turn Ignition on for 30 seconds.
Turn Ignition off for 30 seconds.
Turn Ignition on for 30 seconds.
The vehicle has now relinked the VCM to the BCM.

Relink VATS Rules
The following checks are in place when using the Relink VATS function:

You can relink VATS on vehicles with serial VATS system.
You can relink VATS on any vehicle supported by HP Tuners.
You do not need an individual license for the vehicle.

Have also calibrated the key by holding the lock and unlock button at the same time until the horn honks.

BUT CAN NOT GET RID OF THE p1631 dtc, every time I am supposed to start it stalls immediately and I get p1631, WHAT TO DO?

How can I get the PCM and BCM to link in an European sold vehicle?

Thanx in advance

Tommy

I would try the 30 minute 3 time relearn procedure I read about here. Do a search, it's easy to find and do.

Or, I would just turn VATS off with HPTuners and see if it solved the problem with it running, then go back and ponder fixing the VATS Password situation.

Yeah, have seen the 30 minute 3 time relearn procedure in the manual sent to me by a friend but the sentence before that procedure says:

Have seen this procedure as well but before the description it says:

IMPORTANT

This procedure is for United States and Canada vehicles only!

By the way, tried to switch it off as well but could not find where to do it in HP Tuner? Please advise!

Thanx for your input!

In HPTuners it's under General, System, Security, VATS Control. That's also where I turned off the Column Lock, 'Fitted' to 'Not Fitted'.

HTH,
