Predator question
I am looking to buy a used unlocked 7198. The unit was used on a Chev Tahoe. I would like to use it on my 99 C5. Both vehicles fall under the applications for this model. My question is will it work as is or does it have to be updated for the C5?????

There may very well be updates available, but they will not be necessary for the U7198 to work with your '99 C5... if it is indeed unlocked (i.e., factory tune has been restored to Tahoe).

the person restored the original backup tune to their vehicle to unlock it??
also, you need to find out what revision it's on...
cuz with certain revisions, even if the original backup HAS been restored to the vehicle, the predator will NOT be unlocked...

Question
Can you explain further about updates that may prevent it from being unlocked and if anything can be done to make it work?.

I never heard that before about "certain revisions" - doesn't make much sense to me. Your best bet is probably to
contact Diablosport and ask them.

yes, those older ones.. if they're on an older 1.XX revision, it will NOT unlock, even if the original backup has been restored...
it needs to be on a 2.xx revision in order for the unlock to work.
and, if it IS on a 1.xx revision, you can not get it unlocked either... diablosport will not unlock a used/second-hand predator...

Yes it is an older one 1.03. Last tune written to the vehicle under Car tune was Factory tune. But it will not work anyway. it is still locked on the vehicle. I tried to update but it won't recognize the communication between the predator and my computer. Any suggestions??

you can't update it, it does not support internet/downloadable updates...
the only way you can update it to the 2.xx revision for that old predator would be to contact diablosport...
you have to ship it to them and pay $99 to have it unlocked and updated to the latest 2.xx revision for that tool.
once they do their thing, they would then ship it back to you - unlocked and updated to 2.xx.
