I don't ever see a lot of talk about the Predator tuners( probably a reason). I am not sure if I want to go all the way with the data logging and learning curve but would like to get a feel for what it's like. I know the Predator won't do all the things the more expensive ones will but is it a good place to start? Will the knowledge transfer to the others or is the interface totally different? If I really started getting into it I could sell it and upgrade but I don't expect that to happen ( of course I thought a stock vette would be good enough too). Right now my car is a bone stock 99 vert A4 except for 3.73 gears. I don't care about 1/4 mile times or top speed but do like to go fast from a stop light. I would buy a tune but I intend (over time), to do several upgrades and don't want to pay each time.

Depends on if your upgrades includes things like Camshafts and heads... if not, then a predator is a nice deal to have... after cams it becomes a party piece or a junk-drawer filler.
HPTuners STD is $499- you can hook a wideband to your EGR wire and have all the tuning ability you'll ever need. If you just want to poke around and not spend a lot of time learning the predator is probably the better idea though- hptuners takes some time investment to learn.
