Good morning. My vette is pinging a little at wide open throttle when the engine gets hot. Only mod is the Vortex Rammer. It was doing it before I put the rammer on it. Local vette shop suggest a dyno tune to fix the problem. What can I expect to get from the tune.

Its an A4 with 2.73 gears. I don't want to mod the car a lot.

I had mine done yesterday - no more pinging and I picked up 22 rwhp and 24 rwt. It's an A4 with 3.15 gears. No mods other than Z06 intake lid, K&N filter, Z06 mufflers. I am really happy with the results!

Your knock sensors should keep it from pinging and remove timing automatically--the early C5's 97-00 had bad sensor issues but its uncommon for post 01 cars to --- A stock tune shouldn't ping --I would try a couple things 1st---you may have too much oil in the rammer and it often fouls the mass air flow meter--take it apart and spray some brake clean on the fine MAF wires to clean them--a fouled MAf would give your ECM erroneous info and change the fuel command---Also the rammer or any cold air intake typically makes your WOT fueling leaner--you may have a lean condition with the CAI--
If your car has a lot of miles--you may want to Seafoam the intake too---I would do these easy things 1st--taking timing out via a tune would take away some HP--on a stock tune and stockish motor--so i would do this last---It may be your knock sensors--but its a costly job as the entire intake has to be removed to replace them and you're looking at $500---- If you can scan it somehow borrow a scanner --see what your ACTUAL corrected timing is at WOT---it should be in the 19-24 range---If its higher than that most likely your sensors are bad-- and the timing isn't been removed for knock

It was pinging before the rammer was put on. The car has 17000 miles on it. I had 2 F bodies that did the exact same thing.

I forgot to mention the 160 degree Hypertech thermostat.

Another option would be a mail-order tune from ECS or Chuck CoW. When Stephen was doing mine at EnglandGreen, he showed me a table that was pink at several rpms, indicating pinging. He worked his magic, and the same table was all zeroes after. No more pinging, and a LOT of extra ponies!
