tune needed?

tune needed?
I have a 2000 a4 coupe.
installed a dual cone intake and will have long tubes, mid pipe, x pipe installed as soon as i get someone to help me out.
i am trying to get the car ready for a meet coming up at nearby drag strip. My problem is, most tuners around here want almost $500 to tune the car. My funds are a little tight given I have only a few weeks. So do i need a tune with the mods listed? how much hp am i leaving on the table? I know the CEL will be on w/o tune.

With just a CAI and x pipe a tune is not required--but drive it 50-75 miles before racing to let the trims learn out--With the LT''s however a tune is a MUST---LT's will change the closed loop fueling to become very rich and also affects the WOT fueiling and timing as well--Also--With LT's beacuse the herder wall thickness is so thin you may get false knock as the knock semsors will pick up more engine noise and think it is knock--Quite often you have to desensitse the sensors--
With out a tune with LT's-- you will never get the full benefit of them-unless you get it tuned sometimes no HP at all--but with a tune 20 RWHP is common sometimes even 30----
ALSO on an A4 transmission tuning is HUGE--you can gain 2-3 tenths in the 1/4 without adding a single HP !!!
If it were my car i would see how much they would charge for a re-tune after you install the headers--many places don't charge at all or a minimal fee for a retune---BUT get it tuned after the CAI and X-pipe regaurless and then take it back to them to make adjustments after the LT's are in-------
