Would like to have the 2001 vert tuned. K & N intake, and B & B PRT's.
Is it worth it to get a tune. Speed is not as inportain as fuel efeicenty. The wife and I use the vert for taking long trips.
The big question who in central PA , harrisburg area, does a tune correctly.
YES--most important reason is that with some mods especially a cold air intake -create a lean condition from the added airflow via the CAI---Your computer will try to correct for the added airflow by ADDING fuel during part throttle - in some cases it is always in a state of change and never learns out completely--The added fuel also is transferred to the PE or WOT fuel table as well as a safety--On a C5 the PE table is enabled after just past 1/2 throttle- So it adds fuel there as well--If your added fuel is 10% at P/T--it will add 10% just past 1/2 throttle too -always -- making it RICH and use lots of fuel--
Also if you have an auto there are many fuel saving adjustments to be made--On a 6 speed not as many but still some changes can help
My thoughts on the fuel usage and the smothness of the aotumatic would be much better with a tune. I know I could send away for one but I think a local tune would be better.
Of course getting it tuned locally would be better than a mailorder tune---
The advantage of getting it done locally is that they have a data logger to record info and make MOREadjustments to real world driving senarios
A mail order tune has to be very vanilla as they have to guess what they think is best----- Also i would not just get a "dyno tune" On the dyno they only adjust for WOT performance and nothing in between---No shift point or firmness corrections are checked--and no drivability issues on a DD type car---Getingt a street driven tune is far better---best would be to get BOTH at the same shop--
