So after 8 months of work, I finally fired the car yesterday.
It won't idle and I'm wondering if having the PCV just capped at the manifold (catch can setup will arrive this week) is messing up the expected airflow at idle? It is essentially a calibrated "leak" that I have eliminated.
I'll hook it up this evening, but just wanted to see if my thinking is correct.
Capped or uncapped all that air is "metered" by the MAF and should learn out with 50 miles of normal driving--It is a small amount of air you're adding by capping the port--
This is assuming your still usng the STOCK MAF closed loop tune--
I have just left it all capped off for the time being.
I studied the diagrams and I now understand that all of the air is metered through the MAF. If connected like stock that is.
I have a catch can to add in when I'm done tuning. A process I am learning with the help of a mentor.
It is quite fascinating, to say the least.
We now have it starting and idling both cold and hot. Sounds real good.
The MAF, TB, Intake, Heads and exh are all new to this car. So starting from scratch.
Back to the PCV stuff. I see setups that use a filtered oil filler cap. This must upset the idle airflow a bit.
I use an aftermarker cap that allows fresh air to be drawn in for the PCV system but won't let air release--Aids with any catch can set up to let the PCV breath better--You really only want a one way cap or when the engine is turned off you'll get oil vapors realesed under the hood and an oily smell---
Oh, that. Doh. I don't have a vid camera or a cell phone. I'm 20th century.
It has a nice crackle to it. No lope! And it's doing fine in and out of gear now.
I have a tuner friend, a Canadian in fact! (Insert Canada national anthem)
Going through the cold start routine just takes days I'm afraid. Soon I'll have to drive it and do the MAF curve. Haven't driven it in 8 months! First stop will be an alignment.
