You know how your A4 shifts much better after driven hard because of the adaptive learning? Is there a way to program so it stays that way all the time? Thank you for any help. BTW I'm using EFILive.
I would never install a " mechanical shift kit" on any computer controlled transmission--It's just been my experience you are asking for throuble---- A mechanical shift kit will fight with the computer for control of your trans--At times it will try to double or triple line pressure which is great for blowing gaskets/seals and breaking parts--The ECM will change line pressure as TQ increases as it self adjusts it also self adjusts PWM of the solenoids-- You can however do an "electronic shift kit' simply by getting a real tune--It will accomplish all the same results that you expect( similar to say a TH350 with a shift kit) --but not break stuff-- Tuning will make quick firm shifts--firm enough to bark the tires in 2nd gear even 3rd sometimes--just depends on driver preference and tuner setiings--
I won't claim to know much at all, but I do know the mechanical kit augments the tune nicely if you know how to tune. Tune only has its limits. You think guys with 4 digit hp running single digit passes with electronics have stock guts in the valve body? Think again.
I think drag racing with over 1000 hp is a whole different thing. I was asking for help with a C5 that I just drive on the street. And I got the right answer. A set up like your talking about probably has nothing stock in the transmission. If you see my point.
Extreme example, yes, but to denounce the usefulness of a mechanical shift kit on an electronically controlled transmission is foolish. I've heard just the opposite everywhere elsewhere. The adaptive learning can, within reason, learn around the kit and give you the values you commanded that might have been previously unattainable with the stock hard parts. I speak with extreme generic-ness because I'm too scared to do anything more than alter shift points and times in my truck.
I'm just making the anti shift kit reccomendation based on my experience-- and from talking to transmission shops that continually have to rebuild failed trannys due to "shift kits"
Sure on an dedicated race car you may want to bypass the computer control of the trans to achieve max effort--but those instances are extremely rare--I would guess only 1-2% of all C5/C6's would fall into that catagory---
Basically it's your car do what you like and take advice from whom you please--
