I found a possible solution by searching the code in this Forum. I will try the suggestions and report back soon.
I have a 2000 C5. My mechanic has replaced the gas cap, the fuel tank sensor and the engine sensor but is still getting the same code. He said the code was PO440 for an evaporative sensor problem. Has anybody had the same problem?

Here is a recc. diagnostics for code P0440
Its raher technical but most evap codes can be pesky to trace ohther than the fuel cap--
IF you think the car is running the same regardless---Alast resort would to have a tuner permantly DELETE all the EVAP codes and they will never re-appear
