I'm new to tuning (hp tuners) and I'm in the process of tuning my '98 A4 for idle. Considering I'm along way away from a fully competent tuner what idle speed should I reasonably target:
Thanks, that is exactly the rpm I was shooting for, I just thought it may have been a little high. Its idling pretty decent now, minus a surge it gets (which starts the idle death oscillation). I assume it largley has to do with the larger TB (airflow vs TPS). I'll figure it out.
You need to do first is a Auto VE Tuning and then calcVE tuning first ! This will help the Idle. Are you running stock inj.?if not ,injector tables need to be done first.

Thanks for the info! No, I am not running stock injectors (60# Siemens deka). I have them installed, but not tuned yet. Haven't figured out how to do that yet, still researching this, I'm hoping to have the injectors set up sometime this week.
Very large injectors???? There are 4 tables that need to be adjust!
Haven't had much success in determining which tables to adjust (IFR for sure). Not much good info out there discussing this and surprisingly the worst source of info/help is HPTuners themselves. Work is getting in my way of research, so I'm a little behind schedule.
4-tables that need to be adj.
1Flow rate VS KPA
2-Offset VS Volts vs Vac
3-small pulse adjustment
4-Mimimun injector pulse width.
You need to do this write???
Do you have the spec on your inj??

I'll take a look! I am running 39lbs inj. Who did the motor work? You really need to get this wright. You will never be able to tune your car wright.
I did 100% of the work myself in my garage. Heads, cam ,intake,TB,supercharger (A&A/Procharger hybrid), NOS, headers,WB O2, Fuel pump, oil pump, rearrend, stall, mini tub (not the LPE kit), etc. etc. etc.
You are correct the tune needs to be correct. But you are incorrect, I will be able to tune it correctly myself. Just a bit of a learning curve. I have Greg B's tuning DVD coming so that will be a good start.
Thats cool ! I did mine myself too. Iam not saying you can't do it ! Iam just trying to make it easy for you ?? Good luck with your project ! cheers jeff!

You need to change the ETC area scalar to 0.0192 for the 90mm throttle body if you haven't already. I use the Banish injector specs with good results. I would recommend you check out the hptuners repository for other sc cars so you can see what your tune should look like. Note the timing, ve, and maf tables (if you are running a maf). Check out some basic tuning guides as well like this one.
