Default Update a Tune?

My modified 1999 was dyno tuned in 2001 after the last mods were done. The shop that I deal with has suggested that I update it. I think it is a good idea but before I make the investment would appreciate the views and experience of others. Your views?

Why does the tune need updated if no more mods were done?

If it does need an update, to me it says the original tune was not done right so I certainly would not take it to them again.

my $.02

good luck.

To clarify the current tune was done in the time of the previous owner. The issue is not the tune being done right rather that what can be done tune wise is way different now than with the technology available 14 years ago.

There really isn't any new tuning technology that would improve the tune. Changing the tables to modify the fuel and/or spark is still being done the same way as it's been done since the start of tuning EFI vehicles. But, your car is boosted so it's possible there is an improved aftermarket 2-bar or 3-bar OS to use and it's also possible the present tune isn't that well optimized and could be improved upon.

How many miles are on the car, if you have not changed O2 sensors lately, they may be switching to slowly. A few years ago, GM changed the O2's production to be more resistant to E10/15 fuel, you older O2's were made at a time when E10 was not the norm and they were not as resistant to the ethanol. Putting new Oxygen sensors will affect the tune, but not by much.

The car has 30000 miles. I believe the sensors are original and I have had sensor fault codes.

Does it not run correctly? I wouldn't just tune it, if it appears to run just fine. Don't "fix" what isn't broken.
