Default LS1 Edit Program Question?

I'm doing the 3.42 gear, Sy3500 upgrade from 2.73 gears and factory TC(98 Coupe). Only other mods are exhaust, and air intake. Will the LS1 Edit product be the only thing I need to set my computer correctly without codes popping up etc. I have looked at the web site, and it looks very interesting! Does it allow me to adjust shift points, and firmness like the PPIII? Thanks in advance for the help.

I am doing the gear change also. Just wanted to get onto this thread so that I could monitor it through my email.

You will be good to go (assuming the source of such codes wasn't the converter itself.) You can adjust shift points, firmness, etc., but with much greater flexibility than with the HPP3. You have to know a little more about how such things work (since you rather than Hypertech are doing the programming) but you can replicate all the functions of the HPP3.

Is there documented steps anywhere for this type of gear/TC/shift kit/trans cooler change. Or is it as simple as just changing the gear ratio, and editing shift points? I have read about the codes that keep popping up because of the converter slip? How is that addressed? Thanks.

I have a 99 a4 and went from 2.73 to 3.42. I have my stock converter. Have had nothing but problems since. Wish I had never done it. As ls1 edit applies to my car it doesn't work the gear scaling correctly. When I tried to get the seller to help me out he just ingnored me. So I took it the ls1 edit forum and asked questions about the product short commings and when they might be fixed. I was immedately attacked and when I defended myself they banned me from the forum. Go read my posts and decide for yourself if you want to get involved with LS1 Edit. Read posts from Thomas Darling.

It's pretty simple. The code, or more correctly the issue driving it, has been an issue for a while. The root cause (unscaled OSS) was only successfully conquered this last weekend, I think in large part due to the attention that Tom was able to bring to bear on the problem on the LS1-Edit mailing list. I can attest to the abuse he was subjected to by a few seriously uninformed folks who were in a "if it works for me it must not be a problem for you" mood. I'm happy to help anybody needing a hand, but I'd rather not be repsonsible for a "do this, then this, then that" kind of thing for what I hope are obvious reasons.

Allright...

First, what does OSS stand for?

Second, I just want an answer to this question...After the above mods, using LS1 Edit, will my car run without error codes, or shifting issues?

I am prepared to spend the money on the mods, and LS1 edit. But, I want to feel that I will be able to do the changes, program the computer, and drive without headaches. If I am opening up a can of worms doing these mods, I will just leave my car the way it is! Thanks for your assistance.

Allright...

First, what does OSS stand for?
Transmission output shaft speed. Most other vehicles using an A4 use a VSS (vehicle speed sensor) that indicates OSS. The C5 VSS indicates rear axle rotation. I babbled about this stuff here:

http://temp.corvetteforum.net/c5/fro...arameters.html

Second, I just want an answer to this question...After the above mods, using LS1 Edit, will my car run without error codes, or shifting issues?
Prior to this weekend, I was able to eliminate codes using a workaround (unacceptable long term solution) and put my shift points right where I wanted them. That took a little doing since you had to understand the OSS issue enough to plop in the right numbers. If the fix completes testing successfully (I have no reason to think it won't, and can confirm it worked great on my own car), you should have no problem at all. I would wait for the public release ov v1.06 and verify that the C5 gear scaling fix made it in. I've been asked to post here when it's released and had planned to do so.

Also, I have another thread running here in which I asked folks to send me some data about their setup so we can get a more complete view of the available programming options. I like LS1-Edit but it may not be everybody's cup of tea, there are other options. I plan to summarize the results and post them here (when I get enough to make it worthwhile hint, hint, hint... ;) )

I am prepared to spend the money on the mods, and LS1 edit. But, I want to feel that I will be able to do the changes, program the computer, and drive without headaches. If I am opening up a can of worms doing these mods, I will just leave my car the way it is! Thanks for your assistance.
I understand completely. I had my converter and gears stashed away for the exact same reason, waiting on the release of LS1-Edit this winter. I have been struggling with this issue since March and haven't exactly been happy about it. I have tried to remain patient and focused though, and it appears that victory can be declared shortly. If you're concerned, wait a little for others to have some success. That may be particularly important to you after hearing Tom's story, our experiences have been very different although our goals were essentially the same. There's a bit of lead time on your order in any case.

If you work on your own car already, this isn't a great leap. If you're used to handing the keys and a check to somebody else, this probably isn't the best option for you.

Kurt,

Will the fix for oss issue be available soon? v1.06? I have left Ken alone while he has been working on a fix.

I helped tune Stu in CA's 98 A4 this afternoon using the "workaround" and it seems everything was working fine. Can't wait for the official fix though!

All I know is that it's planned for the 1.06 release, which is reportedly imminent. I haven't heard about any test results (other than my own) yet which is what it's inclusion is dependent on.

Excellent! I am looking forward to a public release myself. :yesnod:

That is correct. Carputing elected to identify the first public release following v1.05 as v1.1, released 08/10/02. There was no public release of v1.06, all v1.06 were beta versions.
