What do I need to autotap?
Ok - I have no idea how this works - I think you need the software, laptop, and cable......I have the laptop, I heard you can download the software for free and it is the cable that is what you really pay for - is this true? I know I have a cable for a Hypertech power programmer - is it the same cable?

It's not the same cable. The autotap has a small module "bump on a wire" which goes between the serial cable to the PC and the diagnostic port. That module does the conversion between the two.
There are two version of the 'cable'. V1 slower, V2 faster.
