Default Quick Tuning Question!

Hey All,
I was just curious to see what every has done just after installing go fast parts. I would like to put 2-3 heat cycles on the car and maybe put a few miles on it BEFORE the actual dyno tune.

The issue I see, is that running the car with more fuel (bigger injectors), new heads, and a cam, etc without a proper tune will cause it to run dangerously rich/lean and foul my new plugs and possibly the O2 sensors as well. The car will be tuned about 45 minutes away from my garage as well and I would like to drive it there if possible (in addition to the heat cycles).

My question to you all is this: Would you remove the PCM and allow the tuner to program a basic tune before starting the car on the initial startup (given that the tuner can do that)? Or do you think it’s safe enough to start the car, allow a few heat cycles AND possibly drive the car 45 minutes to a dyno tune without tuning it at all?

I’d appreciate any and all advice/opinions/stories you have!

You should be fine driving it a short while-----Just don't drive it hard or go to WOT
Putting larger injectors than STOCK with out rescaling the the injector flow rates will make it run PIG RICH and won't hurt anything on a short slow speed drive---Make sure you give your tuner all the injector data Lbs per hour and if they are rated at 3 bar or 4 bar (Only LS engines use a 4 bar--58 PSI system However most aftermarket injectors are only 3 bar ( 43 PSI) this takes a special adjustment

Thanks for the info! I may have to contact the previous owner to verify the #per hour on these. If I remember correctly it was 36# and 51# under pressure? No idea what that means. Wish the injectors said something on them lol

either way a wideband 02 set up is the only true way to verify your actual AFR ratio At P/T you want it to be approx 14.68-1 which is what they call STOICH At WOT it changes to something richer A dedicated drag race car will run in the high 12's AFR or low 13's however on a hot rod street racer you would not want to push it that lean--Typically around 12.7 to 12.8 is a safer AFR at WOT The more info you have on your new injectors will give your tuner an easier way and save time in fine tuning
Again injectors are either 3 bar or 4 bar Nothing in between If the say they are 51 PSI they are most liikely 4 bar rated

I’ve looked into the wideband o2 kit but I can’t pull the trigger on something that expensive when this car won’t be raced much and will be used primarily as a DD.
I did find some some info on the injectors though, so hopefully that will help during the dyno tune without the use of a wideband. They are the fast precision 36#. 42#/hr at 55psi.

As long as the front narrow band O2 sensors work, it will be fine when the coolant temp reaches 100 degrees and it goes into closed loop. There is enough trim range in the system to accommodate those injectors.

It will be rich during warm up and rich at heavy throttle.

Okay, thanks for the input! Makes me feel a little better when I start it up the first time
