I too am curious about this gadet. Has anyone compared this to a real dyno or time slips from the track? The biggest problem I could see with having this gizmo in my car is the speeding tickets I would get trying to beat my own times! :D :D
I have had one for quite some time and it is great. I took it to the track last year and I made 3 passes. The most it was off was 1/10 the best was exactly what I got from the track. The mph was a little off. Twice it was 2mph off and once 3mph off. What I found great about it was that I could test and tune with new parts without the cost of a dyno run each time I changed something.
It sounds like LANZ06 probably had the earliert GTech Pro and not the fairly new Competition model. (The reason I assume this is he said it is sometimes off by a 1/10th or so .. the newer model is goes to 1/100th sec accuracy instead 1/10th sec in the older model.)
I haven't purchased the Competition model yet, but I plan on doing so.. From what I know, it does have a serial port which which you can use to download information to your PC. I don't think there is any software out for it yet though. Some people have downloaded the info though, probably using just a simple serial communications program on their PC.
From what I've heard, at least with the older model, is that once it's calibrated for your vehicle, it's pretty accurate. The MPH times are going to be different from your track slips though. At the track, your MPH is calculated as an average of the final 66' of the track. With the GTech, the MPH shown is your speed at the 1/4mi point. So, the GTech will likely be a couple or few mph higher than your time slips..
Maybe someone with some experience will chime in... I need a little push before I drop $250 on this toy.. :steering:
