Default Attention All Hypertech Users

I have a 1998 c5 auto wit 3:15 gears and was wondering if some of you guys using the HPP3 would be kind enough to recommend some of the settings I should use, such as Shift Points, Rev Limiter and anything else you could recommend with your experience using this program?

Thank you

Give Chris McCauley a call, he's a pro with those hand-held programers.

Ok, so for the benefit of the rest of us not in Michigan, what did he do? I also have a Hypertech and just went by feel for shift points. I chose not to download the engine settings due to spark knock fear. I did raise the rev limiter to 6400 and added 2 mph to 1st-2nd and 2nd 3rd shifts. I went 100% on firmness setting. Tranny shifts right at 6000 now. Is this optimum?

For one thing as I was told and most people know is that the HPP3 is a generic program and will only through in a couple degrees of timing with the power tuning. He also told me that in 1998 when the c5 was in production that the had several different computers that they were trying that year, so you either got one of the better ones or one of the worse ones and if your car had a week computer it would respond better to the HPP3 generic program because it needed it. He also said this is why most of the 99’s and up don’t get the best results is because their computer is already better than the 97 – 98 from the factory. He told me this program is a beginner program and most people that have used it in the past know that and if you plan to go much further with your car you are limited and must upgrade to ls1 edit or some type of custom tuning, but it did what I really wanted it to do for my situation. Curt add the power tuning to your car, you should be ok and not have to worry about spark knock because of your year he said that’s a problem found more in the 99 and ups but if you do just remove it.

Did you install the 160 degree t-stat as they recommend to eliminate the spark knock? Also what does it mean when you move the shift point up or down? Is each increment a mph? In other words Hypertech allows you to move up or down 6 mph, right? Assuming that is the case, what did your tuner tell you was optimum for a 3.15 car?
