Everyone says the tires break loose between the shifts...I can barely feel a difference between normal shift quality and predator-tuned shift quality. Yes, the shifts after tuning are a little quicker, but not as much as everyone is describing. It's a 2003 A4 w/ 3.15 axle. I changed shift firmness to +25% and shift time to -25%. Is there anything I'm missing? maybe another paramater that makes the tranny behave like everyone else is describing? Any and all input greatly appreciated!
Re: Ok, Am I doing something wrong??? (Leadfoot77)
I am with you Leadfoot. I did the same changes to the parameters -25% and +25%, and it shifts faster and a little harder but definately doesn't do what the others are describing, no tires breaking loose with shifts or anything.
I think I might try getting on it with the TC/AH off, or maybe competitive driving mode to see if I get what all the others are describing.
I wonder if I should change something else too, I dunno
ViViD--Its wierd to me that some people seem to feel this unbelievable night and day change, while others feel only a slight improvement over the stock tune. I mean, dont get me wrong--the car is more responsive and there is a SOTP improvement, just not as much as I thought there would be. By the way, I have gotten on the pedal with the TC/AH off and in competitive mode, but there is still no difference. Maybe others can chime in if they've changed anything else...

I think it is because we are young, both under 30, that we think it doesn't make the huge difference that others say they are experiencing.... :D
I think it is a bigger deal to older guys...

Hey, I'll be 22 next month and the Predator made a world of difference on my car. I even had to decrease the shift firmness of the original performance tune and it still breaks the tires loose. And this is with brand new Michelin's!
Re: Ok, Am I doing something wrong??? (Leadfoot77)
I went with +20% firmness and -20% time. The tires absolutely stand no chance on the 1 - 2 shift. The traction control does need to be off, or it does not hit nearly as hard.

yes, the TC is always off, still no difference. I just went out to play with the tune...realized that everytime I install the tune, the car throws codes. Maybe this is the root of my problem. I'm gonna email RWTD and see if he has any suggestions to offer.

Hey bud, I got your email just now, as well.
There isn't anything wrong with your Predator, or your vehicle for that matter, and probably what we need to do is take a look at your base tune file and make some adjustments to it from there. I'll email you on what we need to do to swap it out. If we end up updating any of the parameters any then you'll still have +/- 25% over all the new stuff, which is very cool.
As for the codes, those are actually normal on any Vette when it is programmed, regardless of what tuning device is used. Just clear them out through your DIC as normal.
Speaking on behalf of some of the "older guys" I'm feel lucky I'm able to still feel the need for speed! The Predator makes a considerable difference in this old guys 03 AE Vert. I'm just looking for a boulevard cruiser and don't intend to AutoX, oval track or drag race just cruise and have a great time, might even pace and pass a ricer ever now and again! There you have it an old guy happy to pass a ricer, pardon me while I take my vitamins.

I went from 2.73 to 3.42. I needed the Predator to make the computer shift correctly. That combination really woke up my A-4. I don't know how much I attribute the performance gain to the 3.42 or the new Predator tune. I suspect that the majority of the improvement came from the gear swap.
You may consider a different rear end if you want to consistently break lose your tires.

With my TC/AH off and WOT in drive my 2000 is almost sideways on the 1-2 shift. I have my Predator settings at +12.5% firmness and -2.5% on quickness. I love my Predator and James is the best at customer service I have ever seen. Good luck and thanks again James.

You could have something there... age could be the clue!
I know that at 30, I was nowhere nearly as observant or intelligent as I am now!
It surprises me how DULL my mind & senses were back then. :D :D :D
Re: Ok, Am I doing something wrong??? (Leadfoot77)
have you tried changing your rpm settings as well. on my dads A4 we raised the rev limiter so we could get a red line shift, and in order to get that shift you also need to change the shift mph. just changing the shift firmness and quickness while that will speed up and firm up your shift, however, if you don't end up in at an optimal place in the torque curve after the shift the car may feel like it takes a second to respond. also there is a TSB out there for 01s that talked about sluggish response in downshifting that required a reprogram.
