P 1870 code, can this code be tied to programming???
I'm getting this code on the highway. I had recent
programming and this code started showing up shortly
there after.Could it be associated with shift firmness
on an A-4?
If not, any suggestions? Is it safe to program this
code out. I know it's used to detect slippage in the trans.
Thanks in advance...
under very light throttle, until I clear the code.
It seems to show up on extended highway driving
only. Driving around town does not cause any
issues or set codes.
It's a stock trans and I was just thinking I may have
too much shift firmness programmed into the trans?
car back to the programmer and he made some
adjustments and the car performs great. No more
codes... I believe he programmed the converter to stay
locked longer and made some other adjustments to the
program. Anyway, he did a great job.
IMO you need to drive awhile with the TC locked before it will throw the code. I don't think the "slip determination" is made while the TC is not locked... that's why it generally takes a long drive on the highway to set the code.
If there is no malfunction with the A4 tranny or the TC; then it's most likely due to a rear axle ratio change that would of required reprogramming but didn't get it (or it wasn't done properely).

code in as little as two or three miles at freeway
speed. I took the same route after the reprogramming
and no codes. I'm pretty sure it's corrected. In the past
at freeway speeds with a slight grade, the p 1870 code
would always come up.
The programmer subjected the car to a 30% load while on
the dyno. The converter stays locked until the trans down
shifts to third.
Thanks again for all you help. :) :)
