Default programming options?

I'm planning my 3.42/TC upgrade and I still need to identify my programming choice.

I'd prefer a portable solution that I can use myself. I don't have a 'tuner' within 3 hrs of me.

Here's what I know will work:
Powerloader
Superchips
LS1 Edit

I wanted the Predator, but it won't work on my '98

I think I'm ruling out PL, due to bad history.

Where can I buy LS1 Edit?

Any other suggestions?

LS1 Edit is the best choice, but requires an experienced user to install properly. I have a 97 C5 A4 with 3.42/ 2400 TC setup, and have used a Hypertech III. I was able to change gears and Shift points/Shift firmness. This is the least expensive route, easy to use, portable, and you can find used Hypertechs on the forum for around $200. Just make sure the program has the 3.42 gear option, as some of them do not. There is a Tuning option in the program, but this will yield little benefit on some cars, none on others. You can also set temperature changes for your thermostat, which does work. If you have any other mods(eg cam/headers etc. or will be adding mods at a later stage, then the Hypertech will not be suitable.

Hope this helps...
