I started out with EASE. Worked OK, but now have EFILive version 5, soon they will release version 6. I just prefer EFI now. Not any big reason, it just seems easier to use for me.
Re: Poll: Best Diagnostic Scanner (Andy@AandACorvette)
I am going to need a diagnostic tool, autotap or efilive I hear are good to use. With Autotap the most popular. What are the +'s and -'s of each. Have you worked with any one of these?
I prefer ATAP because it's cheap, accurate any easy to use. Ease is prolly the best scanner on the market, but it much more expensive. I guess it depends preference.
Autotap will do 99% of what any of the scanners will do and do it just as well and as fast. Only someone who is going to spend some time tuning will really see much benefit from going with EFI live. Save some money and pick up Autotap. They are $284.95 shipped in the Continental US...
Yup. Check ebay for a cheap laptop. It really does not need to be very powerful for this situation. Should cost around $100-175 for one to fit the bill. Just make sure it has an RS232 port(serial port).

Re: Poll: Best Diagnostic Scanner (BQuicksilver)
What does EFIv6 do that ATAP does not? I understand the bi-directional aspect, but what instances would I use that? Is EFI for those folks not planning on getting LS1edit?
I think the bidirectional aspect of efilive is only in effect when the software / laptop are running...meaning if you change to a different fuel map, you will revert to the PCM fuel map when the laptop is unplugged.
WRT the other differences between EFIlive and Autotap GM Enhanced... I can't tell...or havent been able to figure it out from the autotap website at least.
