By locking it to one VIN, the unit is essentialy use less. Diablo can unlock it if the performance tune has been restored to the vehicle. They will not unlock it for your benefit, only thiers (eg it's a returned unit).
I think it's the poopietiest thing a company can do.. I think it should work on any car as long as the factory tune is put back.
I bought one anyway knowing that it would always be linked with my car.
There is NO VALID reason to lock it to a car after the performance tune has been removed and the stock put back... other than to make money.
LS1 edit does the same thing, except if you buy the $$$$ version the tuners use.
Other than that the predator is easy to use, and fun to play with. If they would add a loggin feature it would be a complete DIY device.
I send a request for that feature to Diablo, they never replied.

Thanks for the reply Brian,I got rid of the car and put the stock tune back in.I was hoping I could pay Diablo to reset it so I could use it on my truck.If not I guess it is a sad comment on the predator :mad

And not just the predator, but almost EVERY tuning piece... LS1 edit is the same way.

There will be a full datalogging version of the Predator out eventually. I am not at liberty to "guess" when this will happen, but it will happen, and probably within 3 to 6 months. The Ford Gas unit is about to be released for the 2003 Cobra and the 99-03 Lightning/Harley, and it will have this ability. Please see here to read up on it:

On the Fords it monitors for at least 30 minutes, and samples 90 times per second, and you can play back the log file of the options you choose on the Predator, or you can export it to your PC. It also will monitor/log over 400 parameters on the Ford (there's a list on the link above).
As for when this happens on th eGM, the price, from everything I know, will not change. Current owners will be able to get the upgrade, and I'm not sure if there will be a charge or not.

James your the original pioneers voice ... so please discuss it with them, as we should receive this upgrade for free. Since we cannot resell the current unit due to VIN marriage, it would only be considerate of Diablosport to keep us happy .

:iagree: Diablo should do a little more to keep their clients happy, James breaks his back trying to, but Diablo is another story. I agree that they have the right to make money, he77 we all want to, but maybe a little less would translate into more happy buyers and more new buyers.
