Default A4 to MN6 Conversion & PCM Programming.......

I am converting my car to a MN6 probably over the Winter. I want to gather as much information as possible when the time comes for the tuning.

The tuning will be done by a professional tuner who has the unlimited version of LS1Edit.

Are than any tricks to this tuning since my car's PCM is for an automatic? Do they simply re-flash it to stock and change something in Edit to make the PCM a MN6? Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
Keith

There is some differences in the main wiring harness in the car. It's not as easy as changing trannies and flashing LS1 Edit I'm afraid. A local guy is still chasing his tail after his conversion. Mallett takes the harness out and replaces it, that's why the rate is high. Good luck.

I have done one of these and am in the process of doing 2 more. the pcm must be flashed to a six speed file. I have done this with the Fbody but not the vettes as the speedo cal is different. But I believ you still must have a stk mn6 file to start from.

I have ALL the parts....tranny, torque tube, bellhousing, wire harness, clutch/brake pedal, master cylinder, slave cylinder, clutch, linage, shifter................I am just trying to get some info ahead of time for the tuning portion.

If I have my existing PCM flashed by the dealer with the MN6 program...is there anything speical that needs to be done to get my PCM to accept the MN6 program during the flash? Also, once flashed, and my car is tuned by LS1Edit...are there any tricks or special procdures? Since my PCM is currently an A4, I want to make the transition as smooth as possible. Will flashing my PCM to a MN6 program be a very simple flash? Do I need a new VIN #, if so...do I need to do a VATS re-learn.....where do I get a new VIN from? Etc, etc.

Sorry, Wish I could help your more, but I just don't know for sure. The only problem I forsee is that the trans is VIN specific. So to redue your PCM for the 6 speed, you might have to fake the VIN.

Sorry I can't help more,

No problem...thanks for bumping the thread. I think you may be right though. My biggest fear with this project is the damn tuning and getting the PCM to recognize the car as MN6. Fingers crossed :D

Buckmaster, I took out my pcm and took it to a tuner and he removed my a4 program and uploaded a m6 program from a car he had already done. You could probably buy a new pcm form the dealer. Ask Jason (m396-??-??) I remember he bought a new pcm when we had our dyno day. Feel free to keep asking questions. I am trying to get to the shop to print up the wiring schematics for you but, I just haven't had time. Sorry, Andy

Can a PCM be flashed to a MN6 program with LS1Edit? Or does it need to be flashed by a dealer with a stock program and then changed with Edit?

Be careful using LS1-Edit. If you try to write a different cal id than what's in the PCM you can easily toast yourself as LS1-Edit only writes the data segment(s) not the code segment(s). This makes it very easy to write good stuff in bad places if you mix-n-match cals. Aside from that issue, you probably want to change the code segment(s). :) Your best bet for a complete reflash is dealer or other Tech-II capable shop. Dealer may be finnicky about what he can/will do given the VIN issue.

TT
Thank you.....I thought that's what needed to be done. This project WILL be big if I go through with it. The PCM part is what I fear the most :( I figured to flash a MN6 program onto my PCM a new VIN would be needed. Getting a VIN is the hard part I think. Can any 2001 MN6 VIN work for the re-flash? If so....anyone willing to let me use their VIN :)

I would think so... When you get a replacement PCM, my understanding is that you have to stuff code in it. I would guess a VIN would have to be supplied somewhere along the line and could have a typo in it.

Jason, it's as good as gold. Finally got it all straight. IT ended up being the steering sensor went bad the same time I did the conversion. Had nothing to do with me changing everything. Weird.

Buckmaster, did you get the wiring diagrams? Are they what you wanted? Andy

LS1 edit will not let you change the settings from A4 to MN6 (locked version, dont know about unlocked.) I uploaded another MN6 program from Install University and had no issues.

Good Luck!

I can't add anything to your project but would like to know how it all turns out as I would like to do the same. A good friend once said don't reinvent the wheel copy what works. Good luck
