I like Mine. I got it used on this forum for $200.00 and I went from 13.2 to 12.7 in the 1/4 at bowling green. I turned 12.6 in Gainesville. I do have a few other mods. I think the Hypertech works better for an automatic transmission then A six speed. See if you can land A used one on this forum and maybe save some $$$. A lot of guys over Mod their cars and have to go to A diffrent type of programmer.

I'm not happy with mine because the promised power gain isn't there.
OK, it's a 98 LS1 Trans Am and not a Vette... but still an LS1.
You can play a little with shift points and firmness, but for a couple of $100 more you can buy LS1 edit and do everything.
...but you need a laptop...

Show me where you get ls1 edit for $500, unless you're talking about a one-time tune by a shop.

well... $550, you have reason.(http://carputing.tripod.com/LS1orderform.html)
I agree that on top of this you need a scanner (a stand alone like Scanmaster, a laptop or a Palm with Autotap or similar) and a laptop for the LS1 edit itself.
If you start from nothing you come up to at least $1000 to $1500
to buy or not to buy?

The only real tuning a Hypertech does in advance timing.
That'll give you some real off the line punch, feels good.
Oh, it'll let you riase top speed (big deal), and, I think, raise red line and some other do-dads. But the real adjustment is the timing.
I have one in another car, well worth the price ($250??)
Corvette is all stock

My wife's 2000 A4 has one that came with it when I bought it used. I've reprogrammed it and I can't say I've noticed much difference power wise. What is cool though is being able to change the shift points and shift firmness. It'll slam into 2nd and 3rd gear under hard throttle and kick you sideways. I think it will also accomodate tire size changes.

What setting have you in the A4? A guy of hypertech told me to put 1-2 +3 Mi, 2-3 +6Mi and 3-4 +9Mi. REdline +400. My engine is internal stock and I don't know if it's a good idea to incrase the redline (springs, pushrods...). If I leave the redline unchanged I hit the limiter... If I change the switch point less than this I can't feel any real difference.
What to do?
How have you set the converter? I put it at +50% and it's fine only after warm up. With a cold engine the shifts are too hard (especially in winter)

Try setting the rev limiter at +100 (6300) with your shift numbers. That should work. Your 1-2 shift, at +3, will be the shift closest to the rev limiter. Personally, I just left the 3-4 shift unchanged as I understand that's a weaker point of the transmission and that shift occurs about 145 mph stock anyway. BTW, I use 75% for shift firmness. I really like my HPPIII.

I have a six speed, is the programmer worth it. I am buying a blackwing filter, new air duct, MAF senser and housing and 175 stat. Will be buying Borla stinger soon.

It is worth it, at least for me. I dynoed before and after and gained 18 HP. I changed the stat to a 160, which was recommended by Hypertech. So just those to mods gave me 18 HP.
