Default Custom program or programmer

I have an 00 A4 convert and wan't to firm up the shifts, turn the fans on earlier and of course get some more power out of it. My options are as follows take it to A&A for a custom program, Predator, Superchips Micro Tunner or Hypertech. For programmers I kind of ruled out the Hypertech. I was thinking about the Predator beacause I like the idea of being able to load my factory program back in for smog or a trip back to the dealer. What kind of power can tuners get from a custom tune and can they store the factory program to load back in at a later date ?

Thanks in advance for the help,
The Real Corvette Newbie

I'm sure all of your choices in the programmers is OK, and your correct about the Hypertech. I'm using a Vinci Highperformance Tuner and I'm completely satisfied. This tuner wii give you a choice of 6 tunes to use and the ability to change the timing and fuel curves up to a minus or plus 15%, it will tune your automatics torque mangement save your stock tune, change your cooling fan on temperature, recaibrates for different tires or gears.

Where is the GP at, I coulden't find any info on it. Also, I know the Vinci programmer is new, buy why is the price so much higher than all other programmers ? I am sure the programmer is worth every penny, just curious on the price.

the GP is here and also over at ls1tech.com pricing is set at 419.00 + shipping. this programmer can do so much more than most handhelds. click the link in my above post. goes over step by step what you can do with it. call (407)478-VETT and speak with joe vinci about the GP. i can't find the post about a GP here. a forum member brought it up.

Great tutorial. Any idea what kind of added horsepower I would see by using this on a stock A4 02 using the default options? I am a complete newbie at scanning and tuning and would have no idea what to select when it came to adjusting fuel and spark curves. I used the Hypertech on my previous 98 A4 and was pretty satisfied with the default tuning program. The Vinci looks much better but is it for Newbies?

Good news, I picked up a Diablo Predator today and it works perfect. I lowered the fan temps and adjusted the transmission line pressure "shift firmness". My car went from soft mushy shifting to now shifting nice and firm with a small chirp from first to second @ WOT. I only lowered the fan temps a bit, does anyone have any spacific reccomendations for the on off temps on fan 1 and 2 ?

Take your car to a decent LS1 tuner. You should be able to find someone who will adjust your shift point, remove CAGS, change fan temps, etc for under $150.

yes newbies can use this very easily. just as shown in the tutorial i made. you just pick what you want and then install programming. as far as how much hp, i haven't put it on the dyno yet to determine the gain. but. at the track i picked up .2 and 1.4 mph in the 1/4. in theory that's 20hp. but more likely 10-15 throughout the whole curve. and this was using the hiperf/stock cam option with an additional 10% to the timing curve.

track results from today. been doing some R&D with them in getting this tuner perfected.

all stock + cutout open
60ft - 2.073
1/8 - 8.833 @ 82.55
1/4 - 13.636 @ 101.58

above + performance/stock cam program,+10% timing, shift firmness, shift enhancement
60ft - 2.041
1/8 - 8.697 @ 83.51
1/4 - 13.431 @ 102.90

i tried others like the stock cam/supercharged and the CAM #1 just for giggles. i gained a .1et/.5mph over stock from the CAM #1. for the supercharged one .05et/.3mph. remember the only thing i have added are the SLP airlid and cutout

i might try to get on a dyno next week and do some runs to see the actual gain. these will be in second gear starting from 0 mph. the neat thing with the f-bodies is that in 00-02 you could put the automatic gear selector in second and you can start off in second with no downshift. this is for wet/snow driving to prevent slipping during take off.
