I am thinking about buying a Hypertech power programmer for my car. The car will only have an air intake mod and Borla Exhaust.
Will I see a gain from using the Hypertech power program?? Also, is there any danger whatssoever this will damage my computer or cause codes to come up???
Is this a good thing for a pretty much stock car??? Thank you!!!!
You probably wont get a lot of responses because most forum members,if they have a 99 or later model dont use Hypertech. Some use HP Tuners or LS1-Edit. If no one responds who uses the above try the search engine. Good luck.

Is there a specific reason the Hypertech is avoided in later model c5's??

I am happy with the hypertech, I have a vararam and a cat back and some other mods, With just those three mods you should improve you qtr mile ET by a full second or darn close.
I used the Hypertech to calibrate change from 2.73 to 3.15. It works with no problems. I have a 98.
OK, I need to update my post to say:
"the Hypertech will not do gear scaling (for non-factory available rear axle ratio upgrades) on the A4 C5."
Even though the HPIII has the 3.42 listed as a valid do-able ratio, it will not make the changes needed to avoid the P1870 error. It works fine for F-Bodies, but fails on the C5.
You can telephone Hypertec and verify this yourself.
Thanks for correcting me.

When I had my 98 Transam I had it dynoed and I only gained 3 rwhp with it. I liked it though because I could turn my fans on sooner with my lower temp tstat. Also if you have an A4 then you can have your tranny shift at higher rpm increments.

That is interesting, I wonder how they are getting the 27 hp gain they are advertising on their website for the 98 T/A?? False advertising I guess, I wonder why no one has called them on this yet. 3hp and 27hp is a HUGE discrepancy.

Mike, my hypertech III only has the 2.73 and 3.15 as an option in the program. oops, udate I was reading a little further down the post and it looks like if you have a manual it does offer 3.42 sorry for the misinformation.

I had one on my 98 f-bod I picked up 3/10ths in the quarter. For the money I was pretty happy with it, I paid $180 for it used and sold it for $180 2 years later. Basically got free use of it for 2 years. A word of warning about the hpp3 or any canned tune for that matter is you need to check your AFR and log for knock. Basically it leans you out and gives you more spark which will make power but if you're slightly lean to begin with it may cause you to knock. The tranny settings were awesome and I basically kept those when I went to edit. I flashed line pressures that were very close to the hpp3.
I have a 98 coupe and have used the HPIII with expected success.
I installed a 3.42 rear, 160 degree thermostat and a blackwing air filter.
I used the HPIII to change the rear reading (3.42 is in the C5 table and
turn the fans on at 187 degrees (lowest setting). I am very happy with
the results. But that's because that was all I was looking for. 66,000
miles and 311HP and 317 FP torque at the rear wheels. Still have original
everything else except Optima and tires.
