Rear end concerns
1. Are there any drawbacks to go to a 3.90?
2. Does the transmission need to be re programmed, and how dows that work?
3. Do i need a new torque converter?
4. How much will it cost with labor, and where is the best place in so cal to have this done?
This car will never see the track, just want to haul *** off the line, and fly when I punch it on the freeway.
yes; either by a DIY programer (LS1Edit, Predator, HP...) or by a speed shop that can do the reprog for you.
3. Do i need a new torque converter?
No; but if going to a higher stall is in your future... then do them both at the same time. You'll nearly double the labor costs doing them seperately

loss of traction. But it can be regained by new (different) tires and suspension upgrades.

This information might help you in your decision.

3.90s are pretty strong for an automatic and traction will become a real issue.

Nobody has mentioned prices, or favorite places to have this done in so cal?

Especially 3.42 and 3.73 geared cars.
3.90s, 4.10s are typically for hard core race enthusiasts and hobbyist who are going to frequent the track.
I'm still trying to figure out what it is that you are trying to accomplish. What are you going after? Vipers? Z06s? Blown Cobras? Juiced ricers? Sport bikes? Anything you run across? There'll always be someone faster.
Since I don't street race, I built my car based on an ET and other track performance levels I wished to reach. I have no idea how to build a car for street racing as there are so many fast cars on the street. Perhaps if we knew what you were trying to do you could get better advice.
"just want to haul *** off the line, and fly when I punch it on the freeway." is sort of vague. How much *** do you want it to haul off the line??? So much that you will need ET streets or slicks or do you want to run street tires? How much rubber do you want to leave and from how fast of a roll???

you have a problem with your thinking ...
the higher ratio will make the car accelerate like a bat out of hades
but it limits the top end....
my rpm at 85 is about 3200....if you like the sound of high revin v8's like i do , it is awesome
i dont go much over 100 on the highway and do not need a 175 mph car...the 4.10 works for me
you may want to stay with 3.42 if you drive lots of highway miles ...
if you are deciding between 3.90 and 4.10 get the 4.10
