Hey guys, yesterday my belt started chirping loudly and a low coolant warning came on. Sure enough the water is coming fairly quickly out of the bottom of the water pump. After i handle a few more things for school, i'm going to head out and start puling it off to see what's really broken.
Is this a common problem with these cars?
How big of a job am i looking at for chaning the water pump?
BTW, i've go 104,000miles on the car, although the pump was re-sealed almost 2 years ago.
The job is pretty easy. Pull the belt and the ACbelt then replace the h2o pump. While you're at it, maybe change out the belts and check the idler pulleies for any signs of fatigue.

Thanks for the responce! What are my options as far as water pumps? Is an electric pump a viable upgrade at this point?
The electric pumps don't pump as much as the stock pump, and I believe they go for around $350. Evanscooling.com has a ported stock type pump with a better impeller, and goes for $500. Evans is currently in a lawsuit with GM over a claim that GM stole their design to use reverse cooling on the LT1 engine, and it looks like they're going to win, so I'd say Evans knows what they're doing. I've heard rumors that the LS2 pump is compatible, and better.

I used a small thin screw driver and poped the seals on the idler pullies, cleaned off the bearings, and repacked them with grease. They were pretty dry.
Looks like the flexplate exploded. Busted the starter and the bell housing. We are going pull the back end out of the car Thurs or Friday. Hope to make Daytona in the Vette.

Awesome, thanks for the insight, it looks like i can order a stock pump at the local discount for 175 dollars, i'm planning on calling around in a bit.

Bob (The Violator) Moss is coming down from Knoxville on Wed. We, he will start working on her Thursday. And we will be at Daytona early Saturday.
I'm thinking they must have run out Vettes for him to take apart in Knoxville.
