I notice this sound in my car at times (whining) Im on a second clutch, and both the old clutch & new clutch both had this whining at times. I never have figured out what is it. Scott
I kind of like the sound, would be nicer if it was louder so you could hear it out the car lol. Im hoping nothing was wrong though, I never payed attention to the sounds my car made until I started using nitrous and then I got paranoid

Try draining the fluid and replacing with Red Line D4 ATF. Give it a week to 10 days driving and you will like the shifting smoothness.
My 99 FRC developed a whining that you hear in the gears just as you described. It started after I took it to the track. I ran the car hard but never missed any gears or anything. Nothing broke and everything works as perfect as the day I bought it as well as shifting in every gear. Its a very faint sound but I notice it when the radio is not on. I have no clue what it is. One tranny place told me it is NOT the rear end since its too high of a pitch which I agree with since I know all too much what gear whine sounds like since I went through 3 rears in my Z28. I guess its something in the tranny maybe but it doesnt seem to be a problem so im not gonna worry about it. I will change tranny fluid when it gets warmer see if that helps. My car only has 26K miles
I had the same problem but my friend in Pasadena Tx (Mike Milburns) had one of his friends look it over and he fixed it ill will ask him what he did to it and post it
I need to go get that fluid replaced soon, I get mad when im in traffic and I have to go into 2nd a few times, sometimes it feels smooth, sometimes its rocky
If the whine isnt hurting anything then I might not try to fix it, sounds pretty neat.
What about a loose screw sound coming in at low rpms? or a vibrating sound. My car has done it ever since I got it. Any clues?
I hear that hard shifting could be attributed to your slave cylinder needing to be bled.Check out the SEARCH area and you will find an explanation of how to do this.My car whines AND SO DOES MY WIFE,JUST GOTTA LIVE WITH IT.
