Default Gears or Cam?

i have a 04 Z06 with all the bolt ons and am wondering where to go next. the car will see the track about once every other month and will be on et streets. our local track is 4200' above sea level so power is down. if i do go gears do i go 390s or 410s. lets hear it.

Put a cam in that bad boy. Compare the cost for each and you will see the cam is the best way to go. You can make really good power with a cam only in a ZO6.

The gear ratio's you have in the Z06 are nearly equal to a mn6 with 3.90's. So...If it was my car, cam first.

+ a cam will be much cheaper if you do the install, however, you will need a tune to get the most out of any cam....

If he didn't already have the near-3.90 gearing, what would you suggest?

If you even think about running slicks you better beef up the diff. I know it sucks buying those parts but it is better in the long run. Start from the ground up. Talk to Phil at DTE and he will probably cut you a better deal if you buy all the parts at once. The alternative, you could put on a cam for another 50-70 horses and that will be fun. You may even be lucky and not break something. Throw on the slicks and your treading on thin ice with breaking something. Good luck.

Default What cam to use?

What cam would you suggest for a Z06 without changing heads? (I know I posted a new topic on this recently - I'm such a rookie.)

I don't think you'll notice much difference between 3.90 and 4.10's. The cam will give you better et's and the gears will compliment the cam. Make sure you get a good tune from a reputable tuner. Gears imo are useless without traction, so make sure you run et streets or DR at the track or you times likely won't improve.(incr. wheelspin) . I had both sets of gears and could barely tell the difference. I had alot of success with Cartek cams on the dragstrip and they are very streetable. Goodluck.
