looking for some feedback on a couple of questions. I can get a set of GTP STAGE 2 heads complete approx 15,000 miles on them for $1,500, no core{list price $2499.00}. OR stage 2 Lingenfelters full cnc port/ {chamber & runners}complete 0 miles for 1,536, with core, core is not an issue here{meaning down time, wait etc,.} should i be concerned with mileage on the heads? which are better? this is for a 98 A4,with 98k on it. and last but not least either FLP STAGE 4 tranny or a rebuild on mine to accommodate approx 420rwhp.Must keep driveability, not really any track time, need the durability and reliability. thank you all.
I would go with Craig Gallant's(GTP) heads, send them back to him and have him clean them up...... FLP Level IV will hold 400 plus hp. I would ask Chuck at FLP about the problems they have had with their vacuum modulation set up. I think they have this fixed but when I got mine it started pushing tranny fluid back into the intake after a couple hundred miles..... They seem to stand behind their products. GTP stands behind their products as well. You ought to give GTP a call and ask him about the heads that you are considering. He will probably have flow sheets for them still on hand.
I would recommend the LPE heads, but I may be a little biased!
a new set of heads will be in better condition that a set with 15K on them. If it helps I can look up the records on those heads and give you some info on them. We keep records on every single head we produce, I just need the 4 digit LPE number that's engraved in the end of the head.
I have LPE Stage II heads on my 00 vert for two years without any issues at all. For your application I would go with LPE, you get excellent customer service, reliability, the benchmark in which other heads are judged. BTW my car dynoed at 389 RWHP and 368RWTQ with just heads and a GT2-3 (Z/06 spec cam).

You should definetly be concerned with high mileage heads unless they have been re-conditioned. I am not saying used heads are not good, but I would want all them re-decked, valve springs checked, and a valve clean up. If you can get LPE heads, new for the same price, it should be a no brainer.

I like LPE, but in the past, Craig had some of the best ports in the LS1 market. The big thing would be to get them flowed independantly to verify the gains. You can talk with Thunder Racing, as they used to use Craig's head quite a bit.
