By "intake" you mean...
I always assumed this referred to the part with the filter attacehd, like a vararam or blackwing. Or when someone says "Z06 intake" they Z06 stock air box. Is this wrong? Does that refer to the manifold?

The correct term (if there is such a thing) around here is to call filters like the blackwing or vararam, air intakes. An intake manifold sometimes is called just an intake. It makes things confusing when people start abbreviating things and not saying the full name of the part.

From what I see when folks are talking about the intake manifold they usually inquire about and LS1 versus an LS6 or maybe an LS6 versus a FAST.
Likewise air intakes usually contain the buzz words varam, halltech, blackwing etc.
