Default MAF Bad or do I need a Tune?

I recently added the Corsa Tiger Shark front facia and a RKSport Ram Air hood. When I got it back form the body shop, within 50 miles of driving, I noticed what I thought was a clogged fuel filter, but my car only has 4k miles. Then the engine light came on and it kicked back a PO101 (MAF) error. I disconnected the battery for 15 minutes to reset, then drove some more. PO101 went away, but now Im getting PO171 and PO174 Bank 1 and 2 Lean errors. I am not an expert in any way with cars, but from rreading other threads, I guess I am in need of another tuning. Currently I run a LS1 Edit Tuning from LGMotorsprts. I don't want to have to spend the time and money if I dont have to. Question to all you experts out there are:

1. Would these parts cause that much difference in airflow? By the way I am running with a Donaldson Blackwing airfilter assembly, but stock MAF with Screen removed. Never had a problem before the body mods. MAF was cleaned when the problem first happened (no dice)

2. Could the RAm air being causing turbulance? I havnt tried to ducktape off the inner nostrils to see if that makes a difference. I basically bought the hood for looks, not performance.

3. If the MAF is bad, how do I know?

4. Is re-tuning the answer?

Thanks all for your input. I am a new corvette owner and new to Corvette Forum. It is great to be here.

Bryan

Hi Bryan,

Did you remove the screen from the MAF? If I recall the last year they made screens for the MAF was 2000, after that year no screens were put on the MAF.

My MAF went bad after 15,000 miles when I removed the screen from my 2000. I currently purchased a used one with a screen on it.

I would check to make sure the connectors are plug in correctly. You should ask them if they removed the MAF while working on your car. If you touch the MAF connectors with your fingers you will cause damage to the sensor as I read here on the forum. you can also buy some electrical cleaner from any auto parts store and spray it and see if that helps the problem or solves it. If you keep getting those codes you have a bad MAF.

If you have a good buddy with a vette that can switch the MAF for you a let you drive it to see if the MAF is bad that will save you money.

Or you probably need another tune as last resort. Start cheap and go from there.

Regards,
Jesus

If for some reason the body shop did have the airbox/sensor off for the install, I'd go back over all the plugs and then check the fitting/tightness of the duct work & clamps. If you are getting an air leak, I think this could cause some of your problem. Scott

No screens in the 04 MAF to begin with. Apparently the 04 has an upgraded MAF from the years prior. Same thing with the TStat and some other things. Don't know why. Anyway, I had the whole thing off, cleaned it, put everythign back making sure there were no leaks, and still it throws the Bank 1 and 2 Ids. I am wondering if the hood is causing turbulance, but even that wouldnt make sense is there is an air filter to sort the air out. My next step is to look at the wiring harness on the drivers side to make sure there isnt a short somewhere. Connections on the MAF plug too. I ask the body shop if they had anything off, and they promptly said no, so who knows
