Default Going 175mph and building hp?

Well I'm new at this whole C5 high speed thing so bare with me (just sold my 73 T/A SD). I am wondering whats is the best way to build horsepower and still keep high mph's. Will the magnacharger disipate(sp?) mph's greatly? Open to any insight. Thanks

I have heard of everything on this forum, but never a complaint about a C-5 that could not hit 170 or better. The only mod you could do to slow down your C-5 is hang one of those silly A$$ Bull Winkle wanna be spoilers on your car and then it might slow you down to 165.

Pssst! If you do hang one of those B.W. spoilers on your car, don't let anybody on this forum know.

You have 3 choices: N2O, H/C and FI or all 3 combined

I have been researching forced induction quite a bit on the FI/Nitrous section, and it seems that the most economical way to make power is with nitrous. The big draw back is that you have to refill it. IMHO the best way is a supercharger. The question then becomes how much do you want to make and then how much stuff behind your engine do you want to break. The maggie is great because it gives you just enough power to have a blast. If done right looks great. It comes with a available warranty, and right now a few venders here on the forum are offering specials on it. I my self am goping to go to Andy of A+A and get one of their procharger kits as soon as I can afford to. What ever route you take find a good tuner to make the most of your new parts.

No the magnacharger will not reduce your top speed! More power will give you more top speed - Keep in mind top speed is reached in 5th gear not even 6th! Also top speed is an aerodynamic limitation not a redline issue (until you really get crazy)

The only thing that might reduce your top speed is a higher gear swap. Everything else will actually increase your top speed. A Supercharger, a 427 swap or twin turbos will all get you pretty close to the 190's range. If I'm not mistaken, the lingenfelter twin turbo 427 CID clocked in at an astounding 230 mph!!! Here's some more info on that:

Changing gears will reduce your top speed (I can attest to that). One thing it does though, is allow you to use 6th gear more effectively. With only bolt-ons, I have run 5th gear to the max (about 155mph) and then hit 6th and pulled until my HUD read 181 before I ran out of road. My tires were 285/35/18 (smaller than stock, therefore hurting top speed in gears even more) and therefore my speedo was innaccurate by 3%. Doing the math, 181 on the display means an actual speed of 175mph or so. I never thought that 6th would pull that much, but the low altitude here in FL helps out a lot, whenever we can get it to cool down.
Oh and for the record, a stock vette will out do 175 mph (my brother-in-law and I both can attest to that), on the drive home from the museum deliver, we hit 180
Good luck with your speed obsession.

I've hit 160 with top down and it was still pulling.
