Default Lifters

Does anybody know if I have to remove the heads on my 1999 FRC to replace the lifters

Yes! The heads have to be removed. Time to buy a Heads and Cam package.

You can see the lifter guides above the cylinders in this shot. The heads span the lifters as well as the cylinder bores so they must come off to remove the lifters.

Well, the guys who replied above are HALF right. You could remove the lifters the way I did:

Pull the cam out without supporting the lifters, then fish them out of the oil pan for the next 3 hours....

OK, all kidding aside, Patches and SinCity are right... pull the heads, but do this BEFORE you pull the cam

After you spend 3 hours fishing them out the oil pan then you could spend another 5 hours trying to reinstall them thru the camshaft bore
