Hey guys. I have a 2003 Z06 with a Cerra turbo and when I started it up a while ago, I couldn't get the air conditioner compressor to start. I tried it in the manual mode but the air conditioner light blinks a few times and turns off, even when I turn the front defrost on. My builder had the system charged before he gave the car back. The temp was in the mid 40s outside. What do you think? Thanks!
"This button turns the air conditioning
compressor off or on under most conditions. The light
on the A/C button comes on when the compressor is
operating. The air conditioning does not operate at
temperatures below approximately 35F to 40F
(2C to 4C). The air conditioning cools and
dehumidifies the air coming into the vehicle. The air
conditioning cannot be turned off in DEFROST, as it
helps to remove moisture from the vehicle. It also helps
to keep the windows clear."
I tried turning the defrost on but never heard the compressor turn on. When I pushed the AC button, it just flashed. Oh well. I'll figure something out.
One of the biggest issues with the Cerra setup is the position of the downpipe with respect to the AC line. You need to wrap the downpipe & the AC line with header wrap and bend the AC line to sit as close to the frame rail as possible. It does not take much more then a couple of hundred miles to burn a hole in the AC line when it is sitting against the downpipe.
You may also want to buy a piece of fiber wrap from Proturbo Kits, it works very well & will protect the AC line.
It may be to cold for the AC compressor to kick in. When the temp drops to the 40 degree range the AC low side line pressure is about the same as it would be if the AC was working on an 80 degree day. Once it reaches that pressure a switch on the line pressure monitor turns the compressor off to prevent the humidity in the air from freezing on the evaporator.
