HELP - security blinking when i put my key in ignition
my security light has been for the last few days while my car is on. also it been little difficult to put my key into the ignition. i noticed that there was a little piece of metal blocking the passage which needed to be moved to put the key in. now whenever i put key in, the security light blinks rapidly, and i cant even turn the car on at all. steering wheel is locked as well. this happened while staging at the strip (yes very embarrasing). some people thought it was the steering column locking up. others think i have damaged sensors in the ignition that detect the resistor on the key to allow the car to start or turn on, causing the security light to blink rapidly as an anti-theft precaution when i put in the key. does anyone have any feedback on this and the possible cost of repair??
Sounds like something in the ignition switch. Could be the sensor for the key chip.
ive looked the records of this car from the previous owner and column bypass has been performed. i think you are right about the sensor for the key chip. is this something that can be repaired economically?

Sounds like the ignition lock cylinder, it contains 2 small brass looking contacts that touch the resistor whaen the key is inserted.
It's about $100.00 for the part if YDIYS.
Dealer installed I would guess $300.00

I think you nailed this one. I was at the track yesterday and tried to free it myself with no luck. You can see the contacts out of place when you look in the key hole. Nice to know it isn't going to cost too much $. Good luck with the fix...
