I saw a commercial today for the G Tech performance meter for $199. It plugs into your cigarette lighter and gives you 0-60 times ,Q mile times trap speeds, horsepower and lateral G s. Do these things really work and are they accurate? Some of the older models are selling for $30.00 on ebay, what do you guys think? Anyone have experience with these?

Yes it would work fairly accurately if you know the exact weight of your car at the time of the run, and you have to be on really flat land. If any of those are slightly off, your readings will be off as well.
difficult to get accurate readings. I actually had a "dyno tune" program on my palm pilot which did all that the G-tech did and more at one point. It's fun, but really, just go to the dragstrip to get your numbers.
I ran that model at the track in my GTO. The track times were 12.8 at 117. The G Tech gave me 12.7 on that same run - it is accurate, All the runs of the day were pretty much in line with those results.
The difference is of course that the GTeech starts counting as soon as the car starts moving, so it does not account for reaction time.
Keep in mind road conditions will never match track conditions

Actually, I have a GTech Pro Comp that has an Xmas tree mode. It will count down a tree and measure your reaction time. It's fun to play with, I have only used it to compare different techniques for launching the car. I usually just measure 60' and 0-60 mph. I still can't get the car to launch all that well, but running on the run flats maybe I'm expecting too much. I bought mine used from someone on Ebay, didn't pay too much, so it's been worth it.
Are the older units as good as the new SS models? It looks like they do the same things, however the price difference is very large. $30.00 for an older unit (e-bay) and $199.00 for the new one. Makes me wonder
Have you checked out the Tazzo?? Do a google and go to their web site. I've had one for a couple years now and it is about spot on accurate at 2 different drag strips. (and cheaper)

it's fun to play with and it's accurate, but it gets old quick. If you can get one cheap from e-bay or something, go for it, but I wouldn't suggest spending $200 on one

I got a new one for my birthday to use at track events for G's is what I am really interested it. I think it will measure and compare consistencies in each corner. The new one does a bunch more check out there site.

The $30 unit you are referring to is the oldest model.
I have one for sale which is the model prior to the new ones right now.
