Default Oil change intervals

Sadly to say but I'm only able to drive my 2002 Vert approx. 3000 per year. What intervals should I be changing the oil and filter? I'm getting mixed feedback, some say every 3 months regardless of the useage, others say once a year, and then there are some that say change it every 5000 miles regardless of time. Which is correct?

Once a year will work fine with your miles.

Unfortunately I put on less miles than you every year. I change mine at the end of my season before I put the car away for the winter.

Owner's manual for the 2003 says "your engine oil and filter must be changed at least once a year". (page 5-16)

Take it from me @ 3000 miles a year, a yearly oil change is fine. Doing it at the end of the season if you store it over the winter is good. If you drive it through the winter than, a seasonal change should be established, at a time convenient for you, but always done at the same time...

Welcome to the forum..

My first thought is - You need to drive your car more.

My second thought is - being uninformed people, people who just guess, people who "heard it somewhere", people who got this straight from a guy who knew someone that once worked with someone who use to work on cars,or people who listen to their grandfather, or wanna be mechanics, etc. - Don't cross ET

Thanks for your inputs. Fortunately the weather here in west TN one could drive year round. So by what I 've been reading, I'll stay with changing the oil twice a year.

Whatever happened to changing your oil when the car itself tells you when to change it. All that engineering and people go by their 'expert opinion' that they formed before there was synthetic oil.....I drive about 7500 miles a year and when my car says 'change oil now', I do.

Since I drive the car year round I change it seasonal as was stated earlier by Evil-Twin. I think I would only change it once a year if I stored it winters.

I always like the oil to be gold colored when I check it. Must be the **** side of me. Change it whenever the hue looks off
