I own a C4 and one of my friends that owns a 2000 Coupe is having a problem with the steering wheel lockup. He received the recall and did not have an opportunity to bring the car in for the repair. This morning his steering wheel locked up and the car is not driveable. It starts but the wheel does not turn. Can someone please let me know how to release the wheel so he can drive it in for service. Thanks in advance for any help.
From the Tech Tips section....."turn off the key and REMOVE the key. Then shake the wheel back and forth hard. You can then insert the key and drive it somewhere but DO NOT remove the key again or you will be locked up until the fix is installed. The important thing to note is to remove the key. It cannot be unlocked if the key is in the circuit."

This happened to me as well. (2000 conv). The car needs to be towed. I tried everything suggested by the Vette specialist at the dealer including removing fuses. He even came out to the car and tried to free the wheel with no luck. 2 towing companies came out and failed to pick up the car cause of the spot it was in. Finaly, a 3rd firm sent 2 trucks, a "snatcher" and a flat bed. Took all day to get the damn thing into the dealer. Recal was performed on GMs bill and the ignition switch was replaced, they charged my $390 + I paid the $110 tow bill. Sent the receipts into GM who payed my bills in full.
