Default Caliper Clean-up

Hey guys, I just got some used Z06 calipers and need to clean em up. I have brake klean, and I took out the pads... can I just douche them with the cleaner and wipe em down (will it hurt the rubber?), should I put them in a parts cleaner... any suggestions? thanks!

Don't use pads that were seated on a different set of rotors on your old rotors. Buy a new set of pads

Be careful how long you leave the brake clean on. I was cleaning my tranny rear and I accidentally sprayed some on my LR caliper. Well when I went to change my pads all the powder coat was blistering off like burnt/peeling skin. I guess it'd be fine to spray on wipe off, then wash w/ soap and water.

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable can chime in, don't want your ruining your new calipers.

Thanks guys, I actually have new Eradispeed rotors and was planning on using my fairly new (3000mi.) pads with the Baer's, will this work? As for the cleanup, will some dawn and warm water clean them up nice?

Make sure you dont get any of those cleaners on your new zinc coated rotors..the PH is too high and will eat the zinc.
You want to use the stock pads...you wont run the risk of discoloring the rotrs with a harder less dusting pad.. now that you have these pretty rotors, you will be cleaning the tires wheels more often and dust wont be a problem... make sure you dont use any chemicals on your wheels..

Well ET, the calipers are sitting in my kitchen haha! I need to clean-em up before I put them on, and they have a lot of breakdust build-up, well, everywhere. I was just wondering what chemicals are safe for the powdercoating? Thanks man, you've been a big help with my brake issues!

IF you don't mind sticking them in the sink, I think you could use dawn or ivory soap with a toothbrush. The powder coat should not stain, so mild soap should do it.

Spray them with wheel cleaner (the kind that takes off the brake dust) then dry them and then use windex or 409 cleaner on them... looks like new when you are finished. Also, spray 409 in the wheel well to clean the plastic liners too... they will look like new too.
